A BROAD, ABROAD… the Experience

ABROAD EXPERIENCES (ABEX) launches today, and I can barely contain the excitement of introducing you to the fantastic cast of women featured here and in the podcast series. Living as “a broad”, “abroad”, this experience served as inspiration for this side project when I first moved to Australia in 2014. Professionally excited and lured by the sea, surf (and spouse to be), I traveled throughout Asia and found myself challenging the identity I vowed to stay close to. Am I an American? A Working Woman? A Latina? A New Yorker? A dog lover? A twin sister? A socially conscious activist? A Doer? A Giver? A Learner?

In asking these questions, the Universe graciously introduced some incredible women with stories to share…all asking these questions, but in different ways. Hence, ABROAD was born, serving as both a double entendre and a platform for sharing life experiences of women near & far. By expressing their hopes, desires, and challenges this community of bada** broads, abroad was born. These women — living, laughing, learning and “doing” outside of their place of origin — handled experiences of change, confusion, and achievement all while confronting themselves and their own identities in their new environments. It is an important time in our lives when we can confront who we are, even if it’s not who we think we “should be”.
